WORKSHOP DETAILS
If you have ever perused the Iowa Big Tree Registry at:
https://www.iowadnr.gov/Portals/idnr/uploads/forestry/urban/Iowa%20Biggest%20Trees.pdf
you have seen one name listed as the nominator way more than any other. That name is Mark Rouw. He is the Iowa Big Tree Field Representative. He knows where many of Iowa’s largest trees are, and exactly how large they are … off the top of his head!
We will be learning the history of Mark’s life mission, and how to measure trees accurately and honestly inside the historic senate chambers in the Old Capitol. Then we will be outside measuring some of the largest and coolest trees in Iowa on the beautiful Pentacrest grounds. We will see several notable trees including the largest black walnut and the second largest American elm in Iowa!
A live webcam captures the beauty of the Pentacrest grounds 24/7 here: Pentacrest webcam | The University of Iowa – The University of Iowa (uiowa.edu)
A great explanation of parking options is here: Getting Here | Pentacrest Museums – The University of Iowa (uiowa.edu)
No food will be served so we can focus on the trees!
